Sailing from Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas is a true offshore passage that defines real-world cruising. This route combines coastal navigation, open ocean sailing, and remote exploration along the Baja Peninsula, with stops in places like Cedros Island, Scorpion Bay, Magdalena Bay, and San José del Cabo. It is a real offshore passage of approximately 800 to 900 nautical miles and is primarily a downwind route, widely considered one of the best offshore passages due to the favorable sailing conditions.
As you head south, the pace begins to change. The busy rhythms of Southern California give way to a slower, more deliberate way of life found along the Baja coast—remote anchorages, small fishing villages, and a lifestyle centered around the sea.
This is not a short training exercise—it’s a real passage. This is where sailors become capable offshore cruisers.
