FAQ

Experience & Skill Level

Do I need any sailing experience to join?
No prior experience is required for most of our programs. Whether you’re brand new or already have time on the water, you’ll be part of the crew and learning at your level from day one.
Yes. More experienced sailors can use these programs to refine skills, build offshore experience, and gain confidence in areas like systems, weather, and real-world decision-making.
Yes. This is not a passive experience. You’ll stand watch, handle lines, navigate, and take part in all aspects of operating the vessel.
We adjust the training to the crew. If you’re already strong in certain areas, we move through them efficiently. If you want to focus on specific skills, we’ll spend more time there. Everyone is involved, and everyone progresses.

Life Aboard

What is daily life like on board?
Daily life revolves around sailing, watchkeeping, navigation, meal preparation, and maintaining the boat. Conditions and plans can change, so flexibility is part of the experience. You’ll quickly settle into the rhythm of life at sea.
You’ll have an assigned berth and storage area. Space is limited, as it is on any cruising vessel, but it’s comfortable and functional for life aboard.
Yes. Everyone participates. Cooking, cleaning, watchstanding, and general boat operations are shared responsibilities. That’s part of learning how to live aboard and operate a vessel as a crew.
Food is a shared crew expense. Provisioning is part of the experience, and you’ll be involved in meal planning, preparation, and managing life aboard as a team. In some situations, a provisioning list can be provided and all provisions purchased ahead of your arrival when time constraints demand.

Safety & Weather Conditions

Is sailing safe?
Safety is always the priority. The vessel is well-equipped for offshore sailing, and you’ll be trained in safety procedures, emergency protocols, and proper decision-making throughout the trip.
Plans adjust. We monitor conditions closely and make decisions based on safety and seamanship. Changing weather is part of the training, and you’ll learn how to adapt.
Yes. Weather and navigation are core parts of every trip. You’ll learn how to read forecasts, understand conditions, plan routes, and make informed decisions underway.
Conditions vary depending on location and season. You may experience calm anchorages, steady sailing conditions, or more challenging offshore environments. That range is part of the learning process.

Packing & Preparation

What should I pack for the trip?
Bring practical, weather-appropriate clothing, non-marking shoes, and personal essentials. Soft bags are recommended for easy storage.
No specialized gear is required to get started. If you have your own gear, you’re welcome to bring it, but we’ll guide you on what’s appropriate.
Soft bags only. Hard suitcases don’t store well on a boat and aren’t suitable for life aboard.
Yes. You’ll receive a detailed packing list ahead of your trip so you know exactly what to bring.
