Channel Islands National Park

Often called the “Galápagos of North America”—offers some of the most remote and unspoiled cruising grounds on the West Coast. Just offshore from Southern California, this protected chain of islands delivers rugged coastlines, dramatic cliffs, abundant wildlife, and quiet anchorages that feel far removed from the mainland.
But beyond the beauty, the Channel Islands are a true proving ground for bluewater cruising. Over the course of a 7- to 10-day liveaboard passage, you’ll experience a wide range of conditions—changing weather, varied sea states, and diverse anchoring environments that demand sound judgment and seamanship.
This is where everything comes together. You’ll stand watches, refine navigation and weather routing, and work directly with onboard systems—power management, water systems, anchoring gear, dinghy operation, and beach landings—gaining the confidence to operate a fully equipped cruising vessel offshore.
For those dreaming of an extended cruise or ocean passage, there’s no better place to begin. Channel Islands National Park provides the ideal environment to test yourself, your skills, and the boat—while immersed in one of California’s most remarkable natural settings.
