Often called the “Aquarium of the World,” the Sea of Cortez is one of the most vibrant and diverse marine environments on the planet. Made famous by Jacques Cousteau and immortalized by John Steinbeck in The Log from the Sea of Cortez, this region offers warm, clear waters, abundant sea life, and some of the most beautiful cruising grounds in Mexico.
On our 7-day liveaboard courses—typically, but not limited to, the cruising grounds between Loreto and La Paz—you’ll combine sailing with exploration. You’ll move between remote anchorages, islands, and protected bays, with opportunities to hike, snorkel, and experience the landscape up close. Encounters with a wide variety of marine life are a regular part of the experience.
With fewer overnight passages, the focus shifts to refining the skills that define everyday cruising. You’ll practice anchoring techniques, dinghy operations, and daily onboard routines, while gaining a deeper understanding of vessel systems—all while continuing to sail through one of the most rewarding cruising environments in the world.
This is where cruising truly begins. Sailors often debate whether it’s the journey or the destination—and the Sea of Cortez is undeniably about the destination. At times it feels like you’re sailing through the Grand Canyon. This is how life unfolds after a passage: moving between anchorages, exploring new places, and settling into a rhythm aboard. The Sea of Cortez offers that experience—building both skill and confidence in a truly rewarding way.
