At One World Sailing Academy, the immersion begins the moment you step aboard.

You unpack your gear, become familiar with the vessel, review onboard safety equipment, and begin learning some of the ship’s systems almost immediately. Students help provision the boat, prepare for departure, and get introduced to the realities of organizing and preparing a vessel for offshore travel.
Before departure, we discuss weather forecasting, routing, destination planning, sea conditions, and overall passage strategy. Once underway, the learning accelerates quickly.
During the first overnight sail, students begin learning how to manage power consumption and water usage, adapt to changing sea conditions, balance the boat properly under sail, and understand how sail changes affect comfort, performance, and safety offshore.
Students participate in watch standing, navigation, anchoring, onboard routines, and the constant decision-making process that comes with operating a liveaboard cruising vessel.

At One World Sailing Academy, our goal is to teach advanced sailing so that you can go coastal cruising, complete offshore passages, cross oceans, and even take your newfound skills and circumnavigate if that is what you desire, simply expanding your horizons under sail.
Our programs take place aboard a Category A ocean-rated Amel Super Maramu 2000, a proven offshore cruising sailboat specifically designed for long-distance, long-duration passagemaking and living aboard. Students are exposed to real onboard systems, passage planning, cruising, anchoring, and a fully equipped blue water vessel, one that we would hope is the kind of vessel our students would choose to use on their own journeys in the future.
A proper liveaboard sailing experience also creates continuity that is difficult to duplicate in traditional sailing schools. While learning the detailed aspects of offshore cruising and living aboard, it is equally important not to lose sight of why people pursue this lifestyle in the first place.
The goal is also exploration, adventure, freedom, and the incredible experiences that come with traveling under sail.

Students experience the rewards of reaching beautiful destinations, exploring remote anchorages, hiking ashore, snorkeling, sharing meals onboard, and developing camaraderie through the shared experience of offshore travel.
